Roel van Putten (1988) is born in the Netherlands and has a great fascination for cultural appropriation as well as cultural misappropriation, the subcultures this creates and the public debate surrounding it. The works explore the commodification of culture in modern-day life and how neo-liberal society took a grip on it. It sheds a light on how we relate to subcultures and minority groups and how global consumerism generates imaginary stories.
Next to his art practice he is also active as a web/graphic designer and has done various art direction jobs.
